In 1926, Geoff Manning was born in Waikerie, South Australia, where his father, an itinerant carpenter, was employed on the construction of Lock 2 on the River Murray. Retiring from the Savings Bank of SA in 1982 he has written extensively on local history with an emphasis being placed on the origin of place names and within this site are samples of his work together with a cross reference to his index of South Australian newspapers from 1837 until 1936 that is held by the State Library.
